- Bill and Becki Herrington have assumed responsibility at Herrington Ranch, today. The ranch is located 35 miles south east of Bassett, NE. They have been cattle ranching their entire lifetime. Becki's family, Bill and Jo Wolcott were long time Hereford breeders, along with the Herrington's. So you could say Hereford cattle have a strong base in this family. Bill and Beck both competed in High School Rodeo events. Participating several years in the Mid States Rodeo Association circuit. Son, Beau and daughter, Brenna competed showing Hereford Cattle, Little Britches Rodeo, High School Rodeo, College Rodeo and P R C A. Brenna graduated from, OSU at Stillwater, OK in 2005, being part of the National Champion Womens Rodeo Team.
- Beau, wife Shelly, son Gage and daughter Maci are carrying on the tradition. Shelly is a Nurse Practitioner in two local hospitals at O'Neill and Bassett.
- Brenna is married to Eric Kohle of Stuart Nebraska. Eric has his own Custom Carpenter Business and Brenna is an accountant employed at the O'Neill Hospital.
- Ray and Wanda Herrington live on the home ranch and are semi retired. They spend time chasing kids and grandkids to their many events.

Six generations of Herrington's have ranched in Rock County Nebraska since the 1900's. Lorenzo Dow (James) Herrington and wife Katherina Dietsch Herrington married in Iowa in 1889. They lived and farmed in Western Iowa and Northeast Nebraska near Homer Nebraska. Katherina immigrated to America with her father Gottlieb Dietsch and 10 brothers and sisters from Altensteig, Wurttemburg, Germany in 1885. Nine children were born to James and Katherina.
1890- Charles Fredrick Herrington, 1891- Nellie Alice Herrington, 1893 - May Ethel Herrington, 1894 - Nettie Bell Herrington, 1895 - Edgar Elmer Herrington, 1897 - Lura Ellen Herrington, 1898 - Ruby Estella Herrington, 1900- Lorenzo Dow Herrington, and 1902 - Adah Herrington.
Katherina Dietsch Herrington died in 1902 at the age of 32, leaving children from age 12- 2 years of age. She died at home in Homer NE close to the Winnebago Indian reservation where they lived in Thurston County. Son, Charley age 12 had gone with his father, to Sioux City. His father sent him back with a neighbor. The neighbor boy was beating Charley when she met them and she chased them down the road.. She had a heat stroke and died later, but before she died she delivered a baby girl they named Adah. The baby girl died later according to daughter May Herrington Petersen. The Diestch family were scattered about Eastern Nebraska and several traveled to Washington State during the depression.
Lorenzo Dow Herrington (James) moved by covered wagon to homestead in southern Rock County in the central Nebraska Sand Hills in 1921 and it was a challenge to survive with his three oldest children. They lived in the wagon unti they could build a sod house and wooden frame structure. Grandfather Edgar Elmer Herrington, Nettie and Charles Herrington were those three children. They left behind May, Nellie, Ruby, Lura and Lorenzo in the Homer and Pender Nebraska area to board out and work their way through school. Lorenzo Junior was 2 years old when his mother died and was raised by his older sisters. Lorenzo became a well known rancher and horseman in the Burwell Ne area. Edgar married Lela Olive Davis who was raised by her step father Tony Dobrovolny and her mother Laura Beebe Dobrovolny. Edgar and Lela married in 1927 in Atkinson NE. They had four chldren; Dorothy Belle, Ray Edgar , Roy Leland and Donna Jean Herrington. Dorothy married Frank Nachtman, Ray married Wanda Wolfe, Roy married Lotus King, and Donna married Dewayne Tasler. Ray and Wanda Herrington were married in 1950 and they are parents to; Joan Lela Herrington Thorne, Thomas Lee Herrington and William Ray (Bill) Herrington. The Herrington Family has grown and prospered.
